Methods + Approach
At the DentaQuest Institute, we believe that everyone deserves to live a life free of cavities and the negative effects of oral disease. In recent years, science has taught us much more about the underlying causes of oral disease. We can now help people do a better job managing their oral health and prevent cavities and gum disease from forming in the first place.
Our goal is to take advances in oral health science “the final mile” from the centers of research to the dental office, helping oral health care providers improve their practice to emphasize prevention and disease management. Our approach is twofold: identify promising strategies for quality improvement and provide technical assistance to accomplish the goal. Working with clinical partners, we use proven quality improvement principles to identify key areas for improvement and then develop and test the impact of practice improvement strategies. When promising strategies are demonstrated to be effective, we provide technical assistance to support an increasing number of providers wishing to implement them to improve the quality of oral health care. In our quality improvement work, we focus on two major areas: clinical care models and practice management.
