DENTAQUEST CHIEF DENTAL OFFICER AND PRESIDENT OF DENTAQUEST INSTITUTE TO RETIRE
Leader widely recognized for significant contributions to health industry throughout career
BOSTON – After 20 years of exceptional leadership pivotal to DentaQuest’s success, Rob Compton, D.D.S., will be retiring at the end of 2016. Compton currently serves as senior vice president and chief dental officer, DentaQuest, and president, DentaQuest Institute.
During his time with the organization, Compton, a nationally-recognized leader in oral health, quality, reimbursement and analytics, led efforts to build a prevention-focused, disease management model of oral health care and pushed the organization to test new models that support the future of person-centered health care. His influence and thought leadership extended outside the organization in a variety of national change efforts, most recently with the American Dental Association’s Dental Quality Alliance as one of the original five experts chosen to develop performance measures for dentistry.

Compton joined the organization as director of managed care in 1996 and created the first capitated managed care dental plan in Massachusetts. He also established the Oral Health Center in Westborough, Mass., of which he is president, as a model for prevention-focused dental care and minimally-invasive treatment. The Oral Health Center has been recognized by the American Dental Association as an Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year. Compton is also credited with creating the Preventistry program, which rewards dental providers who deliver a high level of preventive care for children and adults at risk of caries and gum disease, and is the nation’s first dental pay-for-performance program.
Effective Jan. 1, 2017, Tequila Terry, who has served most recently as vice president for policy implementation, will become the new executive director of the DentaQuest Institute. Together with Brian Souza, recently appointed as DentaQuest’s chief impact officer, she will oversee an experienced team of leaders and clinicians advancing efforts in oral health care prevention and delivery.
“We have made significant progress in preventive oral health care over the past 20 years, and it has been an honor to contribute to this effort,” Compton said. “I am extremely confident in Tequila and the incredible team at DentaQuest Institute as they work to advance our research and programs to enhance oral health across the country.”
DentaQuest is currently conducting a national search for a clinical leader to serve as the organization’s chief dental officer.
