Twenty-one New Sites Working to Adopt Disease Management Approach to Managing Early Childhood Caries

The DentaQuest Institute is in the midst of piloting the Early Childhood Caries (ECC) Virtual Practicum, a virtual program designed to spread the Institute’s disease management approach to preventing and managing Early Childhood Caries with dental offices and health centers nationwide. Twenty one sites are participating in the pilot from across the United States, ranging from federally qualified health centers, academic hospitals, and private practices. Pilot sites participate in a monthly webinar that delivers clinical content as well as tips and strategies to test and implement this new approach into clinical practice. In addition, pilot sites have access to a comprehensive course site that contains numerous resources and tools to help them adopt the disease management approach at their offices as well as a discussion board where they can chat, share best practices, and learn from each other. Teams have been working hard on assessing each patient’s caries risk, learning new tools for communicating with patients and their families about their child’s oral health, and tracking their success through the use of data.
