Tequila Terry is the Vice President and Executive Director of the DentaQuest Institute where she leads a team of clinical quality improvement, and analytics resources responsible for supporting the transformation of the oral health care and financing systems through evidence-based research, quality improvement, and technology initiatives designed to test new care models that show potential to improve costs, quality, outcomes, and access to care.
Prior to this role, Ms. Terry was the Vice President of Policy Implementation for DentaQuest where she was responsible for integrating public policies and emerging healthcare trends into practice by ensuring readiness and alignment across all DentaQuest business units. In this role she was also responsible for DentaQuest’s corporate citizenship program which provides corporate giving, sponsorships and partnerships with charities and communities in need as identified by DentaQuest employees.
Throughout her career, Ms. Terry has worked with a broad array of health care industry stakeholders including health care providers, insurance carriers, patients and policymakers. Terry served as DentaQuest’s Executive Director of the Maryland Healthy Smiles Medicaid program. Under her leadership, Maryland was recognized by the Pew Center on the States as one of the top-performing states for oral health programs. Terry’s expertise played a critical role in the development of medical and dental inter-professional initiatives to address early childhood diseases in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Ms. Terry was also the Chief Plan and Partner Management Officer for the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE) where she was responsible for the development and oversight of insurance product strategy through partnerships with commercial insurance companies, CO-OPs, and Managed Care Organizations. She was also responsible for MHBE’s channel partner program which included insurance broker and third party benefit administrator certification, oversight and support. In this role, Ms. Terry also worked with community stakeholders to identify implications of policy decisions and communicate policy decisions to market partners.
In addition to her vast experience with the administration of government sponsored health care programs, Ms. Terry also served as Vice President of Operations for a commercial vision insurance company where she had responsibility for group enrollment, claims processing and consumer assistance. Additionally she held leadership roles with a national health care data clearinghouse, where she worked with large hospital systems, pharmacies and private practitioners from around the country to help them understand and institute best practices for revenue cycle management and patient payment processes.
Ms. Terry is currently a fellow with the 2016-2017 Disparities Leadership Program, led by the Disparities Solutions Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. Through this program, leaders address racial and ethnic disparities in health care and develop solutions that are carried throughout the health care industry.
Ms. Terry has a Master of Business Administration from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and has completed coursework towards a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Towson University.
