Anid Naranjo, EDDA, a community dental health coordinator (CDHC) at Kids In Need of Dentistry (KIND), sees a lot of people in need of oral health care in Colorado. Sometimes, she can’t believe her eyes.
“It was a young family that traveled through the jungle,” says Naranjo. “It just broke my heart to see.”
Naranjo was able to help the family get to a clinic and have a doctor look them over.

Through the Disability Inclusion and Justice in Oral Health Request for Proposals (RFP), CareQuest Institute is seeking to fund projects and partner with organizations that are working to address systemic barriers to oral health for people with disabilities and awarding $1.25M total—10 grants of $125,000 each.
Nearly 20% of the US population identifies with a Latino community today. And that 20% — those 1 in 5 individuals — often face disparities and inequities that influence their oral health care, access, and equity.
The benefits of integrating oral health care and overall health care are well-known. However, the inability for medical and dental providers to access and contribute to shared patient records continues to be a barrier to an integrated health system.
To learn about provider experiences with electronic health records (EHRs), CareQuest Institute conducted a survey of more than 100 medical and dental providers at Federally Qualified Health Centers. FQHCs were selected due to their role as innovators and early adopters of medical-dental integration.
